Kete Pattern
The woven pattern of this pendant is inspired by the kete, which are traditional carrying baskets woven from plant materials. They play a significant part in Māori culture. Although utilitarian, kete have important symbolism, as they represent a container of knowledge and wisdom. In this way they are a symbol of the resilience of the Māori people.
The Drop/Kuru- Drop pendants are regarded as touch stones for meditation and representing a connection to the whenua (the land) Aotearoa (New Zealand). The Kuru design is a simple slender length of pounamu worn to encourage knowledge, confidence and independence.
Genuine West Coast Marsden Flower Jade from the Marsden, West Coast area. The centre of this stone is a highly translucent, light-ish green shade, free from dark spots and other flaws. One of the rarest varieties, held in high esteem by the Māori. The most prized Greenstone in New Zealand is Flower Jade, Greenstone with pale green or ochre clouds of colour. This distinctive patterning and colouring come from the outside rim or 'rind' of the greenstone boulders or stones where the surface has oxidised.
