This gorgeous piece of Siberian White Jade with its stunning creamy white colour and satin polish, has been crafted into an elegant artistic design with fabulous black Pakohe (Argillite) sliders which finish this and would make a wonderful gift.
Siberian White Jade- From the mountains near Lake Baikal in central Siberia – This Nephrite Jade is usually white, off white, cream or “leek green". With Siberia’s severe weather conditions and inconsistent production, the raw stone is only accessible for two to three months of the year at most.
Argillite- Known to Māori as Pakohe, and to geologists as metamorphosed indurated mudstone, argillite is particularly associated with the Nelson-Marlborough region in New Zealand. It is found on Rangitoto (D'Urville Island), along the Whangamoa mineral belt, and in the upper reaches of the Maitai, Wairoa and Motueka Rivers. Māori valued Argillite’s strength, hardness and ability to hold a sharpened edge – which made it ideal for making tools (especially Adzes).
