A wonderful feeding Kiwi (our most famous native flightless bird) handcrafted from a gorgeous piece of Kawakawa stone. This is a stunning intricate carving of one of our greatest Icons in New Zealand.
Kiwi is a flightless nocturnal bird native to New Zealand and has become the national symbol for New Zealand. It is known for its long peak, hair-like feathers and retiring nature. Māori traditionally believe Kiwi to be under the protection of Tane Mahuta, God of the forest. Kiwi feathers are particularly important to the Māori for their use in ceremonial cloaks.
Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. it comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used in gem purposes.
