A fantastic Kouma (Breastplate) handcrafted from the beautiful Raukaraka Pounamu. The soft colours are amazing and with the wonderful decorative work of the Koru, this will be a treasured gift that will carry on through the generations.
Kouma/Breastplate- signifies strength and protection in battle. Today they still hold this symbolism but more as a representative scale.
Raukaraka- Genuine West Coast Greenstone from the Taramakau River Area. This is the term used by the Māori of the Cook Strait region of the Kawakawa variety that is streaked with a shade of olive green and has yellow and orange hues that blend into the greens. This stone shares its name with the New Zealand native Karaka tree.
