This is a gorgeous intricate carving of one of our loved taonga, playful and highly intelligent they love to play and frolic in our oceans around our beautiful country and the world.

Maki Orca or killer whale, is a toothed whale and the largest member of the oceanic dolphin family. It is the only extant species in the genus Orcinus and is recognizable by its black-and-white patterned body

Black Jade – Australian Black Jade hails from Cowell on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula. Coveted globally for its high quality, Australian Black Jade combines beautiful midnight blacks, with a medium to fine grain, allowing the gem to achieve a very high polish, and is sought after by serious carvers. It is still part of the greenstone family, so it will still shine green under bright light .

Mother of pearl – The iridescent inside lining of a mollusc shell, commonly found in oysters, freshwater mussels, and abalone (paua). It is strong, resilient, and very iridescent. This multicoloured iridescence is caused by the way the light reflects on the layers of the shell.

A protection shell/stone that brings the gentle healing power of the sea to you. As a stress relieving stone, it brings relaxation and soothing to its wearer and the ability to calm emotion. Mother of Pearl also stimulates intuition, imagination, sensitivity, and adaptability.

Inanga- Pounamu takes its name from a freshwater fish native to New Zealand. It is pale and often transparent, like the young of the Inanga fish. It is pearly white to grey green in colour, and ranges from translucent to quite opaque. It can change colour over time, developing a light olive tint as it ages and oxidises - Highly prized by the Māori and the desired material for making Mere and Patu.
